Matie Shop is proud to partner with ShareBite SA, a student-led food rescue and food security initiative founded at Stellenbosch University. ShareBite SA rescues quality surplus food and provides nutritious meals to students experiencing food insecurity, ensuring that no student has to choose between their studies and their next meal.
Our contribution helps fund essential fresh ingredients, meat, vegetables, packaging and other meal preparation costs for ShareBite's Soup Kitchens, allowing volunteers to prepare warm, nutritious meals for hundreds of students throughout the year.
In addition to supporting regular Soup Kitchens, Matie Shop contributes to ShareBite SA's Exam Meals programme, helping students access nutritious meals during demanding exam periods when financial pressures are often greatest. The initiative currently serves approximately 120 students every week during exams, providing vital support when it's needed most. Together, we're helping create a campus where every student has the opportunity to thrive.
Matie Shop proudly stocks the Kidz Positive Beaded Range, a collection of handcrafted beadwork created through Kidz Positive's Positive Beadwork Project.
This inspiring initiative provides training in traditional and loom beading to mothers and caregivers from HIV-affected families, enabling them to earn a sustainable income while working from home and caring for their families. Today, the project supports around 45 women, whose earnings help provide for hundreds of dependants.
Every handcrafted bracelet, keyring and beaded accessory sold at Matie Shop represents more than beautiful craftsmanship it creates economic opportunities, preserves traditional beadwork skills and supports stronger, more resilient communities. By choosing the Kidz Positive Beaded Range, our customers become part of a story of empowerment, dignity and hope, proving that even a small purchase can have a lasting impact.
Food insecurity remains a reality for many university students. That's why Matie Shop proudly supports Food Sock, an initiative helping students access affordable, nutritious meals.
Available through the Maties Coffee Hub, each Food Sock contains ingredients for four wholesome meals for just R45, providing practical support to students navigating the financial pressures of university life.
Food Sock also works alongside community partners, including ShareBite SA, to strengthen food relief efforts during high-pressure periods such as exams, ensuring that more students can focus on their studies without worrying about where their next meal will come from.
Matie Shop is honoured to support NOAH (Neighbourhood Old Age Homes) a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping older persons live with dignity, independence and purpose.
For over 40 years, NOAH has provided affordable communal housing, healthcare, community building programmes and social enterprise opportunities that enable older persons to remain active members of their communities. Their innovative model focuses on restoring dignity while
fostering belonging, independence and economic participation.
Through this partnership, Matie Shop contributes to initiatives that uplift older generations, recognising the invaluable role they continue to play within our communities and ensuring they are supported with care, respect and opportunity.
